5 Critical Strategies to Promote your Event App, Way Before Your Event

Promoting an event app early has a number of benefits, not the least of which are better audience engagement before, during and after the event, as well as better visibility for sponsors and exhibitors. Here are some tips on how event organisers can properly promote the app at the critical pre-event stage and lead to more downloads.

Show Off! – Website. Social Media. PR. Newsletters. Event Brochures. Make sure your app is promoted everywhere, along with app store links and QR codes. Hey, if you’ve got it, might as well flaunt it, right? Event apps should launch early, at least six weeks before the event, and the launch should be accompanied by a wide promotional net.

Highlight It – An event app deserves its own newsletter and press release, as well as a prominent mention on the website home page. Remember to keep it above the line!

Relevant Content – A good idea is to create a simple user guide to help attendees install the app and explore its various features. This is also where marketers can showcase why downloading the app is essential for attendees. Small infographics detailing the app’s features can be promoted on social media.

Gamify – Shall we play a game? Ok, that sounds sinister, but the fact is, gamification can be great fun. Rewarding users for early download and frequent engagement with points works wonders. Give away small gifts to winners during the event itself for a fun diversion.

Promote on social – We really wish we didn’t have to say this, but too often we see event apps not being promoted enough on event social channels. A Facebook post a week hyping the app is essential if it is to reach the audience effectively. Speakers and delegates can also be asked to talk about it on their social channels.
